PLUMgrid pudding for Christmas, who gains weight?

In 2013 PLUMgrid emerged from stealth mode, delivering a virtualised network infrastructure using standard x86 hardware, using an “IO Visor”. This sat within the host, rather than using an external SDN controller.

Yesterday (19th December 2016) a PLUMgrid blog post states that their team and IP have been acquired, but the name of the acquiree.

Today we?re announcing that we will be starting a new journey as we continue revolutionizing and transforming the networking industry to build and on software-defined infrastructure for private and public clouds. Our technology and IP have been acquired, and many of our employees have joined a new team. – Pere Monclus, Founder and CTO of PLUMgrid

PLUMgrid kick started the now supported IO Visor Project, contributing some key elements to the Linux kernel, including the extended BPF providing enhanced socket level filtering, and XDP (eXpress Data Path), both improving the and visibility of traffic within hosts (and hence virtualised environments).

SDxCentral believe the beneficiary of this experience and knowledge is going to be VMware.
